Who is the biggest douchebag in the Conservative cabinet?

Check out the poll to the right (how appropriate!). I wanna know what you think. Who is the biggest douchebag in the Conservative cabinet? I left out Harpy because that's a given. :)

Dear Asshat

Dear Whiny Asshat,
Ya know, just because you run a well-known, and well respected website, you are not above gentle criticism. If you appear to over-react and someone calls you on it, going off on a tirade about your personal safety and how you deserve more respect makes you sound like an arrogant asshole. Even if you weren't over-reacting, you sound like an arrogant asshole. And furthermore, "I was surprised by X's reaction" is NOT the same as "tacitly accusing X of being unreasonable". No, it means the reaction appeared unreasonable, and the commenter was surprised because X is usually a reasonble person.

Won't be bothering with your touchy site again.

Despair

I am feeling absolute despair for Canada today. What a bunch of sacks of crap we are!

490 people show up at our door telling stories of war, murder, torture, and hell we cannot imagine, and what appears to be the majority of us say, "Fuck off and die." (Yes, I know, the National Post doesn't speak for the majority, but I'm seeing so very much vitriol and hatred, racism and xenophobia, that it seems like it has become that way).

This is supposed to be a Christian country. Harper claims to be an evangelical Christian. His behaviour speaks for itself though, doesn't it? Refugees are scattered throughout the Bible, and every time, God reminds God's people to be hospitable. In Deuteronomy 10:19, God says, "Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt." In Leviticus 19:34, God says, "The stranger that sojourneth with you shall be unto you as the homeborn among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God." If the New Testament speaks louder to you, you needn't go further than the parable of the Good Samaritan. I think we forget that Samaritans weren't friends to the Levites. They didn't get along. But the Samaritan took the man who'd been beaten and robbed, and paid for him to be treated. Jesus told the people to go out and do the same. I can go on. There are dozens of examples where we are clearly told to be hospitable people.

And what are we doing? Taking their kids away, locking them up, and branding them all as terrorists because they're MAYBE part of a group fighting against a government we support?! We'll make them prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they're innocent? What the flaming hell are we doing? And don't give me any shit about how it sends a message to others that they can "take advantage of us too". No bloody way. We are to be hospitable without grudging (1 Peter 4:9).

Harper, that ignorant fuck, says, “Let me be clear: we are a land of refuge, but at the same time I think Canadians are pretty concerned when a whole boat of people comes — not through any normal application process, not through any normal arrival channel — and just simply lands,” So we're a land of refuge, but only if you can go through our massive bureaucracy?! What the hell kind of refugee can do that?! If they could, they'd be applying for immigration, not asking for our help!

Please people, for the love of God, for the love of humankind, stop supporting this government. Stop supporting people who are actively thwarting our opportunity to be good people.

One year older, one year more jaded

It was my birthday the other day. I like my birthday. It's fun and I milk it for every drop. :) For example, when the security company came to the house to install our new system, I told him it was my birthday and got $30 off.

Been watching the news with a lot of disgust lately. Especially the Pickton thing. The media is sensationalizing it, sucking it for every last headline. I hate it. And finding out that he'd been arrested for attempted murder years before all these killings, and released because the woman he tried to kill was a prostitute and therefore, "not credible" just felt like a kick in the gut. I cannot fathom the pain that caused the families of his victims.

Listen to me: Prostitutes are people too. They know better than to report a rape because cops will not take them seriously. If a prostitute says, "This guy tried to kill me" and has the DAMN STAB WOUNDS to prove it, take her seriously.

You know, this week when Stockwell "Doris" Day was going on about under-reporting of crimes, he was on crack, but he was inadvertently right when it comes to sexual assaults. We do not report them. I was listening to CBC radio that afternoon, and they had on the statistician who did the survey on crime that Doris was misconstruing. Yes, there are tons of crimes that go unreported - mostly petty theft and minor crimes like that. But sexual assaults go unreported a lot.

The reasons for that are complex, including the victims feeling ashamed of what happened, scared of repercussions, just wanting to forget (as if that's possible), and last of all, what is really sad, is the reaction of the police. Police are very difficult to deal with after an assault. They often minimize it, mock it, ask assholish questions, make the victims feel even worse. Shit like this is more than enough to validate our opinions of police. And that's ordinary folx. People in the sex trade? Gah. I'm so sorry to be part of the society that treats them as less than human
